Van Halen Backing Tracks
I started in the business of using tracks onstage when I started using Van Halen backing tracks in a Van Halen tribute band. We were a band that attempted to cover both the DLR era of VH and the Sammy Hagar era as well.
The only songs that required the use of tracks however were primarily the songs written during the era of Sammy Hagar singing. They had tons of hits and to be honest, Eddie’s work on the keyboard really added something to the band’s sound. We didn’t do all of the hits they had but we did do eight or so that required the use of backing tracks. That includes ‘Jump’ as well which, as you all know is a DLR era song.
The thing about Van Halen is that they used two different tunings (generally), depending on what era of music you’re listening to. The DLR stuff was all recorded in E-Flat. That being said, ‘Jump’ was recorded at A-440. Most bands don’t spend too much time playing with their different tunings on stage so before you use Van Halen backing tracks, you need to be sure of which tuning you’re going to use. On this site I’m making the tracks available so that they can be performed in either tuning. PLEASE BE SURE YOU KNOW WHICH TUNING YOU WILL REQUIRE. As a rule most people wanting backing tracks to perform VH live will opt for the tracks to be usable in an E-Flat tuning. This is because Sammy Hagar’s voice is high that most singers cannot reach the notes he can hit without hurting themselves… If they can do it at all.

Included as well on some of these tracks are backing
vocals. We didn’t over do it. We only added backing vocals to a couple of songs
that really required it. The Song ‘Right Now’ has a few voices added to the
chorus to help fill it up and the song ‘When It’s Love’ has the choir like
section added to it as well as chorus lines. Once you’ve performed with these
tracks you’ll be glad that the vocals are there. ‘When It’s Love’ in particular
is very long at the end and it’s easy to run out of breath and hit the wrong
notes. With the main backing vocal harmonies being done on the tracks, you and
your band can add easier, not so hard to reach harmonies that will help to fill
out the song even more, and make you sound absolutely huge.
We paid a pile of money for the tracks that were made for us by the way. It was around $200 per song and I've seen guys charge that much recently to do tracks as well. Remember that if you decide to do Van Halen you can get the tracks here for only $1.99 per track. Just click on download mp3 backing tracks - V to be able to access them.
